Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central

Business Central implementation, customisation, GST localisation and ongoing support.

Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central is an enterprise resource planning system for small and mid-sized organisations, covering finance, sales, purchasing, inventory and reporting in one place.

Our work on Business Central is led by a certified Microsoft Dynamics 365 professional, and is informed by the accounting and GST side of our practice — which matters, because most implementation difficulties in India are compliance questions rather than software questions.

Where an ERP helps, and where it does not

Business Central is worth considering when your transaction volume, number of locations or reporting requirements have outgrown a basic accounting package, and when several people need to work in the same data with defined permissions.

It is not a substitute for sound processes. An implementation over undocumented or inconsistent practice tends to formalise the inconsistency. We will say so if that is what we find.

GST localisation

Indian GST requirements — place of supply, tax structures, e-invoicing and e-way bills, and the reporting needed for the returns — must be configured correctly for the system to produce data you can file from.

Because we also handle GST compliance, the configuration is tested against what the returns actually require rather than against the documentation alone.

What this covers

  • Implementation

Requirement study, configuration, data migration and go-live support.

  • Customisation

Extensions and reports built for requirements the standard system does not cover.

  • GST localisation

Tax structures, e-invoicing and e-way bill configuration tested against filing requirements.

  • Data migration

Masters and balances moved from your existing system with reconciliation.

  • Support and training

User training and ongoing support after go-live.

How the process works

  1. Requirement study

How you work today and what the system needs to support.

  2. Configuration

Chart of accounts, tax setup, masters and permissions.

  3. Migration and testing

Data moved, reconciled and tested against real transactions.

  4. Training

Users trained on the processes they will actually run.

  5. Go-live and support

Cutover, with support through the first reporting cycles.

Documents required

  • Current chart of accounts

    From your existing accounting system.

  • Master data

Customers, vendors, items and price lists.

  • Opening balances

Trial balance as at the intended cutover date.

  • Tax registration details

    GSTIN for each registered location.

  • Existing report formats

The reports your team relies on today.

  • User list and roles

Who needs access and to what.

The list above is indicative. Additional documents may be required depending on your case and the current departmental requirements.

Frequently asked questions

Is Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central suitable for a small business?

It is designed for small and mid-sized organisations, but suitability depends on whether your requirements have actually outgrown a simpler system — transaction volume, multiple locations, several people needing controlled access to the same data, or reporting your current package cannot produce.

If a simpler system would serve you, we will say so. An ERP implemented over processes that are not yet settled tends to formalise the problems rather than solve them.

Will customisations break when Business Central is updated?

Not if they are built as extensions. An extension sits alongside the base application and survives Microsoft's regular updates. Changes made directly to the base application do not, and accumulate into an upgrade problem.

Everything we build is delivered as an extension, with the source code handed over to you so that you are not dependent on us to maintain it.

Can Business Central handle Indian GST requirements?

Yes, provided it is configured for the transactions you actually carry out — place of supply, reverse charge, multiple state registrations and credit eligibility all need to be set up correctly for the output to be usable for filing.

Because we handle GST compliance as well, we test a configuration by preparing an actual return from it, which surfaces gaps that testing against documentation alone does not.
